Bio

When hip-hop heads talk about the top producers from Chicago, one producer proves why he is part of the elite. His name is Toxic and he crafts banging tracks for Keyshia Cole, Monica, Twista, Charlie Wilson, Jamie Fox, Speedknot Mobstaz, Do or Die, Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans, T-Pain, Too Short, etc. The list of artists continues to expand and drop jaws. “ I capture the moment to make the hottest shit possible,” says Toxic, and from the look of his impressive catalogue he is a man of his word.

Toxic embraced hip-hop listening to artists like LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim, and N.W.A. Battle rapping would become his creative outlet at the age of fourteen: during that time he met his friend and long time collaborator Twista. I In 1994, he joined up with the group Illstate Assassins, and from that experience his group Three in the Chamber, was established. It was then he made the transition from rapper to producer having cut his first tracks with Three in the Chamber under the guidance of DJ Riot One & Chain Saw. From tht moment on he became addicted to the rush of having artists perform on his tracks, “I did my first beat and got a response from it… being in a studio, working on a beat from beginning to end, and seeing somebody put something down on it is really when I got the juice for it,” remembers Toxic. Afterward, Tic would begin engineering and working with Twista on his albums. That collaboration experience would be profoundly instrumental in the development of Toxic’s sound, he notes, “Twista was the final ingredient to the batch… He gave me the full spectrum of everything. Twista brings the best out of me on the music side.”

As for Toxic’s music, the combination of old school and new influences are prevalent. Classic Rhythm and Blues and artists such as Twista, ice Cube, Jay-Z, Lil’ Wayne, and Led Zeppelin inspire him to cook up sizzling tracks. One factor that kept Toxic in the game is his production team China White Productions, founded in 1999. Producers he handpicked to collaborate with him and create hits that range from Hip-Hop and R&B to Pop. “I try to give the artist a vision of where tog go, “ explains Toxic. To make the pie even sweeter a publishing deal allows Toxic opportunities to reach more artists and spread his reputation in other genres of music. The task for Toxic is to get a multitude of artists to work on his tracks, as well as placing on his music for as many albums as possible. For Toxic there is no limit to what he can do.

Infectious hooks and thumping beats course through his mind and find their way on to an MPC: production is second nature to Toxic. However, he is not satisfied with just conjuring beats; he wants to create music that will take hip-hop to unexplored horizons. “I’m trying to do what’s new, innovative shit… I’m always trying to think on another level: the next level, “ admits Toxic. Having the proper tools at his disposal, he is set on pounding out his legacy in Chicago hip-hop and in music period.
